Meet Your Salesperson: Jeff Churchill
Meet Your Salesperson: Jeff Churchill
Welcome to our “Meet Your Salesperson” series! Today, we’re excited to introduce you to Jeff Churchill, one of Smithco’s dedicated sales professionals. With a career spanning over four decades in the turf industry, Jeff brings a wealth of experience and a passion for customer service.
Jeff joined Smithco 18 years ago, coming from a 20-year tenure with Northstar, a distribution company based in St. Paul, Minnesota. His journey with Smithco began when he interviewed for a customer service position. However, recognizing his potential, the then-vice president, Bill Kenny, offered Jeff a role that matched his skills and needs better—handling the Midwest territory.
Jeff’s extensive background started as a golf course superintendent, a role he took on after earning his degree in agronomy. His first job on a golf course was back in 1976, and he has remained in the industry ever since. Jeff enjoys the satisfaction of creating something beautiful and well-maintained, from growing the turf to mowing it.
At Smithco, Jeff’s roles have been diverse. He has managed territories across the Midwest and the West Coast and has had significant responsibilities in the Asian and European markets. His dual expertise in turf management and mechanical aptitude has allowed him to understand and address the needs of Smithco’s customers effectively.
Jeff’s favorite part of his job is getting out into the field and helping customers find solutions. He enjoys the challenge of overcoming objections and turning skeptics into satisfied clients. He finds great fulfillment in the travel aspect of his job, which allows him to see new places and meet new people.
One notable aspect of Jeff’s career is his role in introducing GPS technology to customers. He enjoys demonstrating the benefits and efficiencies of this technology, helping customers understand its value in reducing chemical costs and improving turf management.
Jeff attributes much of his success to his deep understanding of customer needs and his mechanical skills. His background in turf gives him unique insights into the challenges his customers face, and his problem-solving abilities have earned him a reputation for reliability and expertise.
Outside of work, Jeff values family time. Born and raised in Spring Valley, Minnesota, he and his wife Sue, a Rochester native, have built a life centered around family. Jeff’s commitment to family is evident in his decision to stay in the Midwest, close to his loved ones, rather than relocate to Phoenix.
Jeff’s story is one of dedication, expertise, and a deep connection to both his work and family. His contributions to Smithco and his customers reflect his passion for the industry and his commitment to excellence. We’re proud to have Jeff as part of the Smithco team, and we hope you enjoyed getting to know him a little better. Stay tuned for more stories from our incredible team members!
